       At 1:47 a.m. on August 6, the large screen of the main control room of Fuqing Nuclear Power Unit 2 showed that the generator had taken the initial load—the unit 2 was successfully connected to the grid for the first time. It was confirmed that during the grid connection process of Unit 2, the parameters of the equipment were normal and stable, and the state control was good, which indicates that the unit construction has officially entered the grid connection commissioning stage and has power generation capabilities.


The grid connection is a comprehensive test of the overall performance of the primary and secondary circuits of nuclear power units. After the grid connection, Unit 2 will enter the state of trial operation with load, and continue to carry out load test, transient test and other related test items, and finally sprint for commercial operation.


Fuqing Nuclear Power Project is located at the front of Qiwei Mountain, Qianxue Village, Sanshan Town, Fuqing City, Fujian Province. It is an excellent coastal nuclear power plant site. It plans to build 6 million-kilowatt pressurized water reactor nuclear power units, which are planned and constructed in stages. At present, Fuqing Nuclear Power Unit 1 has been in commercial operation on November 22, 2014. Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant Unit 2 officially started construction on September 17, 2009, with an installed capacity of 1.089 million kilowatts and an annual power generation capacity of about 8 billion kilowatt hours after commissioning.


The construction of Units 1-4 of the Fuqing Nuclear Power Project adopts the second-generation improved nuclear power technology, and has implemented a number of technical improvements based on the feedback from the "Japan Fukushima Nuclear Accident" experience. The comprehensive localization rate of Units 1-2 reaches 75%; 3- Unit 4 is in accordance with the requirements of national equipment localization policy, and the equipment localization ratio is not less than 80%; Units 5-6 use China's independent third-generation nuclear power technology-"Hualong No. 1", which is a demonstration project of Hualong No. 1 nuclear power technology . After the completion of all six units, the total annual power generation can reach about 45 billion kilowatt-hours, with an annual output value of about 17 billion yuan. The economic and social benefits are huge, which is conducive to optimizing the energy structure of Fujian Province and promoting the energy diversification development strategy.
