Nuclear accident emergency drills are an important part of maintaining the emergency capability of nuclear facility operating units. Emergency drills can keep emergency responders alert, familiar with the situation of emergency facilities and equipment, and proficient in emergency response procedures.

According to the national nuclear emergency plan, nuclear emergency organizations at all levels shall adopt desktop deductions, actual combat exercises, etc., and conduct emergency exercises frequently to test, maintain, and improve nuclear emergency response capabilities. National nuclear accident emergency joint exercises are organized and implemented by the National Nuclear Emergency Coordination Committee and are usually held once every 3 to 5 years; member units of the National Nuclear Emergency Coordination Committee individually organize individual exercises as needed. Provincial nuclear emergency joint exercises are usually held once every 2 to 4 years, organized by the Provincial Nuclear Emergency Committee, and attended by nuclear facility operating units. Comprehensive exercises of nuclear facility operating units are organized once every two years, and if there are more than three operating units, the frequency of comprehensive exercises is appropriately increased. Before the nuclear power plant is first loaded and put into operation, the provincial nuclear emergency committee organizes joint on-site and external exercises, and the nuclear facility operating unit participates.

In 2009, China ’s first national nuclear emergency drill “Aegis — 2009” was successfully held (the probability of an accident simulated in this exercise is more than one billion years), and even under this accident scenario, China passed an effective After the emergency response and disposal, there will be no catastrophic consequences.) After that, the National Nuclear Emergency Office organized and coordinated more than 300 exercises of various types at the provincial and nuclear facility operation unit levels. Since May 2013, under the guidance of the National Nuclear Emergency Office, Guangdong Yangjiang Nuclear Power Plant, Liaoning Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant, Fujian Ningde Nuclear Power Plant, and Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant have held the first loading (investment) drills. In 2014, Zhejiang Fangjiashan Nuclear Power Plant, Guangxi Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant, and Hainan Changjiang Nuclear Power Plant plan to conduct the first loading (investment) drills.
