At 13:54:48 on July 22, China Nuclear Power Investment Holding's Fuqing Nuclear Power Unit 2 reached criticality for the first time. The realization of this major engineering node marks that the unit has officially entered the operating state with power.


The critical process of a nuclear reactor in a plutonium nuclear power plant, similar to the ignition process of a conventional thermal power plant boiler, is also like the human heart pacing. After the threshold, as the heart of the reactor, the core will continue to "beat", and the neutrons in the reactor are in a self-sustaining equilibrium state, that is, the number of new neutrons generated by nuclear fission is equal to the number of neutrons required for the core to continue to fission. . Next, after completing a series of related tests, the unit will carry out the first nuclear turbine flushing and grid connection work.


 Throughout the critical process, professionals operate strictly in accordance with national regulations and technical regulations, always putting safety first, ensuring that the entire startup process is progressing steadily. The supervisors of the East China Nuclear and Radiation Safety Supervision Station of the Ministry of Environmental Protection witnessed the entire critical process on the spot.


Fuqing Nuclear Power Project is located at the front of Qiwei Mountain, Qianxue Village, Sanshan Town, Fuqing City, Fujian Province. It is an excellent coastal nuclear power plant site. It plans to build 6 million-kilowatt pressurized water reactor nuclear power units, which are planned and constructed in stages. At present, Fuqing Nuclear Power Unit 1 has been in commercial operation on November 22, 2014. Fuqing Nuclear Power Plant Unit 2 officially started construction on September 17, 2009, with an installed capacity of 1.089 million kilowatts and an annual power generation capacity of about 8 billion kilowatt hours after commissioning.

The construction of Unit 1-4 of Fuqing Nuclear Power Project uses the second-generation improved nuclear power technology, and has implemented a number of technical improvements based on the feedback from the "Japan Fukushima Nuclear Accident" experience. The comprehensive localization rate of Unit 1-2 reached 75%; 3- Unit 4 is in accordance with the requirements of national equipment localization policy, and the equipment localization ratio is not less than 80%; Units 5-6 use China's independent third-generation nuclear power technology-"Hualong No. 1", which is a demonstration project of Hualong No. 1 nuclear power technology . After the completion of all six units, the total annual power generation can reach about 45 billion kilowatt-hours, with an annual output value of about 17 billion yuan. The economic and social benefits are huge, which is conducive to optimizing the energy structure of Fujian Province and promoting the energy diversification development strategy.
