The National Development and Reform Commission held a regular press conference on the theme of the morning of July 14th, released the situation of power consumption in the first half of the year and responded to hot issues.

Preliminary statistics show that in the first half of this year, the country's total electricity consumption was about 2.759 trillion kWh, an increase of 2.7% year-on-year, and the growth rate was 1.4% higher than the same period last year. Among them, the electricity consumption of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries and residents increased by 7.7%, 0.5%, 9.2% and 7.7% year-on-year, and the growth rates rose by 6.9, 1.0, 1.2 and 2.9 percentage points year-on-year. In terms of quarters, in the first and second quarters, the country's total electricity consumption increased by 3.2% and 2.1% year-on-year respectively. In June, the electricity consumption of the whole society was about 492.53 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year increase of 2.6%, and the growth rate rose 0.9 percentage points year-on-year.

While the power consumption of the entire society is increasing steadily, the structure is continuously optimized, and the contribution of the tertiary industry and residents' living electricity to the growth of the entire society's power consumption is greater than that of the secondary industry. In the first half of the year, the impact of tertiary power generation and household electricity consumption on the growth of power consumption in the whole society reached 80.9%, far higher than 14.4% of the secondary power generation. The power consumption structure was further optimized. Among the electricity generated by the three industries, electricity consumption in the information transmission, computer services and software industries increased by 14.2% year-on-year, electricity consumption in the commercial, accommodation and catering industries increased by 7.3% year-on-year, and electricity consumption in the financial, real estate, commercial and residential services industries increased by 9.6% year-on-year.

In the first half of the year, the overall electricity consumption of the secondary production was still sluggish, with electricity consumption increasing by only 0.5% year-on-year, especially in high-energy-consuming industries. Among them, the power consumption of metallurgical and non-ferrous industries decreased by 9.4% and 4.3% year-on-year, and the growth rates fell by 2.9 and 9.6 percentage points year-on-year. The impact of the decline in power consumption in the two industries on the growth of power consumption in the whole society reached -47.9%, which lowered the growth rate of power consumption in the whole society by 1.3 percentage points.

From the perspective of power generation, in June key water power plants across the country received better water, clean energy consumption policies were implemented well, and the power generation structure continued to be optimized. According to preliminary statistics, in June the national hydropower and nuclear power generation volume increased by 2% and 15.8% year-on-year respectively, while the thermal power generation capacity increased by about 9% (84 million kilowatts) year-on-year, the power generation volume increased by only 1.3%; the first half of the national hydropower The nuclear power generation volume increased by 15.3% and 25.6% year-on-year respectively. The thermal power generation volume decreased by 2.9% year-on-year, equivalent to saving about 32.47 million tons of standard coal and reducing carbon dioxide emissions by about 85 million tons.
