The construction of the “Hualong No. 1” million-kilowatt nuclear power unit has made China a country with three independent generations of nuclear power technology after the United States, France, and Russia. Plutonium fuel technology is one of the core technologies of the reactor, and continuous upgrading of nuclear fuel technology is an effective means to improve the safety, reliability and economy of nuclear power plants. Previously, this technology has been monopolized by foreign countries for a long time, and it can only be processed according to plans in the country. Even if there is improvement, the consent of the technology-owning country must be obtained. This has also become a thorn stuck in the throat of our nuclear power people.


In order to change this passive situation, CNNC launched a key science and technology project “Pressure Water Reactor Fuel Design and Manufacturing Technology Research” to develop CF2 fuel from 12 months to CF3 fuel for 18 months. Solve export restrictions. At present, China's third-generation nuclear power "Hualong No. 1" nuclear fuel element, the CF series fuel assembly with independent intellectual property rights, has made breakthrough progress. It is expected that from 2017, the CF series will gradually achieve industrial applications. Opening up the "Synergy era" of design

Jing Chunning said that "Hualong No. 1" is a very complicated system project. The design process requires multi-professional and collaborative design among multiple units. The interface is complex, the number of participants is large, and the coordination and management is extremely difficult.  In order to solve this problem, in the design of "Hualong One", China Nuclear Group combined the concept of "Internet +", combined nuclear power design, application software integration with the Internet and other technologies to establish a comprehensive offsite comprehensive collaborative design platform. At the same time, multiple design units are connected through the network, and various terminal devices are used to carry out collaborative design work on the same platform.


The currently completed design collaboration platform includes, in addition to China Nuclear Power Engineering Co., Ltd. and China Nuclear Power Research and Design Institute, the four institutes, and also connects with nuclear power owners, project management, engineering procurement, equipment manufacturing plants, and civil and installation construction units. Provide related design data support. There are about 20 connected units. These units are located in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Xi'an, Shijiazhuang, Zhengzhou and other places. The number of terminals for the collaborative design platform has reached 500 and can be expanded as needed. In addition, the collaborative platform also integrates multiple functions such as factory 3D design, cable laying, and mechanical analysis calculations. Based on the collaborative design platform, a digital 3D design model of Hualong No. 1 nuclear power plant and a complete database have been established, including more than 50,000 sets of equipment, 165 kilometers of pipelines, and 2,200 kilometers of cables. This data can also be used for equipment procurement and processing.


"This is equivalent to building another 'digital nuclear power plant'." Jing Chunning said that the "Hualong No. 1" design platform has improved the level of nuclear power design, equipment manufacturing, and engineering construction, ensuring the advanced nature and safety of "Hualong No. 1" Performance, economy and construction quality. While fully drawing on advanced international experience, the nuclear power design and information technology have been deeply integrated. The Internet, data encryption, simulation, and virtual reality technologies have been fully utilized to solve problems such as data transfer and integration between different platforms, and have reached the international level. In addition, China ’s first independent nuclear power software package and integrated software integration platform (NESTOR) was officially released at the end of last year. Its calculation accuracy has reached the international advanced level, and it is on par with the nuclear power countries such as the United States and France, and has become the world's first camp. Its successful release laid the foundation for the development of internationally advanced software in the future and played a key role in the implementation of nuclear power's "going out" strategy.


"Julong" goes overseas to expand global market


While the domestic demonstration project is advancing rapidly, on August 20, 2015, in Karachi, Pakistan ’s largest city thousands of kilometers away, the 2nd nuclear power project using “Hualong No. 1” technology also achieved the first pot of nuclear island pouring. In fact, at a series of important conferences, China has repeatedly emphasized the need to give play to the leading role of nuclear power technology exports and create new comparative and competitive advantages for our economy. National leaders also repeatedly pushed China ’s nuclear power to "go global" during their visits. "Going global" for nuclear power has become a national strategy. Thanks to the promotion of top-level design, coupled with obvious technical and economic advantages, breakthroughs have been made in the development of Hualong One overseas projects.


2 In February 2015, the Chinese and Argentine governments signed the Agreement on Cooperative Construction of Pressurized Water Reactor Nuclear Power Plants in Argentina, marking the successful export of the “Hualong One” autonomous third-generation nuclear power technology to Latin America. On this basis, in November 2015, China National Nuclear Corporation and Argentine Nuclear Power Company signed a framework contract for a pressurized water reactor project. At present, the two parties are maintaining close working relations and actively promoting the early construction of the Hualong No. 1 PWR project. In addition, China has also reached cooperation intentions with Britain, Sudan, Brazil, Egypt, Ghana, Malaysia and other countries.


"Compared with advanced nuclear power countries, 'Hualong-1' has many competitive advantages. It adopts a gradual technological development path, integrates many advanced technical features on the basis of mature technology, and guarantees mature reliability. At the same time, the construction of the "Hualong One" demonstration project will also support and promote the implementation of the national "Belt and Road" strategy and China's nuclear power "Go Global" strategy. According to estimates, the export of nuclear power units has a very obvious economic effect.
