Xinhua News Agency, Chengdu, January 14th. Reporters learned on the 14th from China Nuclear Power Research and Design Institute, a subsidiary of China National Nuclear Corporation, that the hull platform research and development, design and manufacturing unit within the United Nations has completed the preliminary design and key of floating nuclear power plants in China's seas. Technical research work is planned to start the demonstration reactor construction at the end of 2016.

The next day, the National Development and Reform Commission formally wrote back and agreed that the ACP100S offshore floating nuclear power plant declared by China National Nuclear Corporation was included in the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan” for energy innovation. ACP100S is a marine application model of ACP100, and "Multipurpose Modular Small Pressurized Water Reactor ACP100" as a national high-tech industry development project, has been approved by the National Energy Administration in 2011, and has completed all scientific research.

It is understood that ACP100S is a fully-developed and independently-designed small-scale offshore reactor model of China Nuclear Group, which fully meets the requirements of the third-generation nuclear power safety. It can meet the energy needs of providing thermoelectric water for offshore drilling platforms, island development, and remote areas, as well as desalination, Nuclear power refrigeration and other diversified development needs.

Song Danrong, chief designer of the multi-purpose modular small pressurized water reactor of the China Nuclear Power Research and Design Institute, said that at present, the research and development, design and manufacturing unit of the hull platform within the United Nations Nuclear Power Institute has completed the preliminary design and key technical research of floating nuclear power plants in China's seas. Work, with the basic conditions for the construction of a demonstration reactor. It is planned to start the construction of a demonstration reactor at the end of 2016 and complete it in 2019.

It is reported that China Nuclear Power Research and Design Institute has developed floating reactors with three different power scales, including ACP10S, ACP25S, and ACP100S, based on more than 50 years of research and development experience in small offshore reactors. Based on this, single and dual reactor combinations can be implemented to achieve Models of floating nuclear power plants of different power scales.

Song Danrong also revealed that all types of floating reactors are independently developed and have 100% intellectual property rights. The domestic and foreign patent layout and intellectual property protection of relevant floating nuclear power plant models have also been completed. ACP100S alone has been approved by the National Patent Office. There are 385 various patents, and a cooperation agreement has been signed with the largest international Lloyd's Register society and the International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA, and the relevant floating nuclear power plant safety review and related regulations and standards are being developed.
