The National Development and Reform Commission said at a meeting on the 24th that it would accelerate the pace of approval of a number of nuclear power projects.

Prior to this, the central government has repeatedly reiterated and strengthened the need to “restart coastal nuclear power in due course”.

At the sixth meeting of the Central Finance and Economics Leading Group held on June 13, General Secretary Xi Jinping requested that the construction of new nuclear power projects in the eastern coastal areas be launched as soon as possible under the premise of adopting the highest international safety standards and ensuring safety.

Many insiders of Chinese nuclear power companies have previously told this newspaper that Liaoning Dalian Hongyanhe Phase II, Liaoning Huludao Xudabao Phase I, Shandong Haiyang Phase II, Zhejiang Sanmen Phase II, Guangdong Lufeng Phase I and Shandong The Rongcheng demonstration project will be approved by the Development and Reform Commission on a priority basis.

These nuclear power projects have a total of 12 units with a total installed capacity of about 15 million kilowatts. This is almost equivalent to the total installed capacity of nuclear power plants currently in commercial operation in China. Zhang Huazhu, chairman of the China Nuclear Energy Industry Association, said in May this year that China ’s nuclear power installed capacity was 17.01 million kilowatts.

According to the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" for energy development, by the end of 2020, China ’s installed and ongoing nuclear power capacity will reach 88 million kilowatts. As of the end of March 2014, China's installed and ongoing nuclear power installed capacity was approximately 48.7 million kilowatts.

按照 Based on the estimated capacity of 1 million kilowatts per machine, China will have an average of 6 units starting construction each year before 2020. According to the above plan, China will usher in the climax of nuclear power construction, and it is expected that about 40 units will be under construction at the same time during peak hours.

In March 2011, after the Fukushima nuclear accident in Japan, China conducted a comprehensive safety inspection of existing nuclear facilities. The inspection results showed that China's operation and nuclear power plants under construction basically met China's current nuclear safety regulations and the latest standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency. Requirements, safety and quality are guaranteed.

However, due to various reasons, the nuclear power project originally planned to be launched along the coast has been repeatedly delayed.

The above interviewees told the “First Financial Daily” that nuclear power enterprises are waiting for national approval of nuclear power projects. They said that all preparations for the start of the nuclear power project were adequate.
