According to media reports on January 20, Russia ’s St. Petersburg-based research and investigation agency Energoizyskaniya called on interested parties to bid for a geological survey of the Mediterranean region where the El Dabaa nuclear power plant planned by Egypt is located.

The initial (highest) bid price of the contract was 20 million rubles ($ 256,700), and the bidding results will be announced on February 5. The contract stipulates that the survey must be carried out within 4 months after signing. The main contents of the survey include observation of sea level and air pressure parameters, and sampling of soil and water.

11In November 2015, Russia and Egypt signed an intergovernmental agreement to jointly build and operate four VVER-type reactors. It is expected that the two countries will also sign a general contract for the construction of the first unit in the first quarter of this year. However, the preliminary work of Unit 1 started in early January, and Russia provided Egypt with the first batch of US $ 25 billion project loans that accounted for 85% of the total power plant price.
