At 14:33 on August 26, as the first fuel cycle of the first group of fuel components moved into the core, the first furnace charging of Hainan Nuclear Power Unit 1 officially kicked off, and representatives of the National Nuclear Safety Administration carefully inspected the Various preparations and witnessed the process of the first group of fuel assemblies in place.

A total of 121 fuel assemblies were loaded into the reactor core this time. To ensure nuclear safety, Hainan Nuclear Power has set up a loading leadership group to coordinate deployment, deploy manpower, organize training, and conduct long-term simulation operations to ensure "no fools". At present, the loading is underway in an orderly manner, and the three-packer personnel perform operations in shifts, which is expected to continue for 2 to 3 days.

Loading is the demarcation point between nuclear and non-nuclear tests in nuclear power engineering, and an important milestone for nuclear power plants with nuclear test operation. The start of the loading process marked the official entry of Hainan Nuclear Power Unit 1 into nuclear test operation. The Hainan Provincial Energy No. 1 project achieved a major node breakthrough, providing a solid guarantee for the Hainan Nuclear Power Unit 1 grid-connected power generation.

Since this year, Hainan has been plagued by power shortages, causing huge inconveniences to production and life. After Unit 1 generates power, Hainan ’s power shortages will be greatly relieved. In 2016, after the two 650,000-kilowatt nuclear power units of the project generate electricity, the annual power generation will reach 10 billion kWh, which will account for about 30% of Hainan's power structure. By then, Hainan Province will become the province with the highest domestic use of clean power. (Liu Xuan, Wen Hai Nuclear Maintenance Office)
