May 1st International Labor Day is referred to as May Day, on May 1st each year. It is a common festival for working people all over the world.

This section stems from a strike by workers in Chicago, USA. On May 1, 1886, more than 200,000 workers in Chicago went on strike for the implementation of the eight-hour work day. After hard and bloody struggles, they finally won. To commemorate this workers' movement, on July 14, 1889, a socialist congress convened by Marxists from various countries was grandly opened in Paris, France. At the conference, the participants unanimously agreed that May 1 would be designated as a common holiday for the international proletariat. This resolution has received a positive response from workers around the world. On May 1, 1890, the working class in Europe and the United States took the lead in taking to the streets to hold grand demonstrations and rallies to fight for legitimate rights and interests. Since then, every day the working people of all countries in the world have to meet and parade to celebrate.

The celebration of Labor Day by the Chinese people dates back to 1918. This year, some revolutionary intellectuals distributed leaflets introducing the May Day to the masses in Shanghai and Suzhou. On May 1, 1920, workers from Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and other cities took to the streets to hold large-scale parades and assemblies. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, China ’s May Day was designated as a statutory Labor Day in December 1949.

On the eve of "May 1st" in 1921, workers learned to sing the "May 1 Memorial Song" in the Changxindian Labor Tutorial School founded by Deng Zhongxia, a member of the Communist group in Beijing, and others. The lyrics are: "Freedom of beauty, world star, fight for my blood, and sacrifice for him. We must wipe out all the power system and remember the good days of May 1. The red flags are flying, walking the bright road, doing everything we can, doing everything we can. Need, regardless of rich or poor, rich or poor, the responsibility is only to help each other, I hope everyone works hard together. "This powerful song was created by the faculty of Changxindian Labor Practice School and the progressive students of Peking University.
